Collaboration with universities and educational institutions
A case in which recurring work with Taisho University Kyoto Academia and networking events with Kyoto Chie-Sangyo Sozo-no-Mori made industry–academia exchange part of community life.
Background
Kyoto has a dense concentration of universities, but researchers, students, and local IT engineers had few routine opportunities to meet. Although industry–academia collaboration was promoted institutionally, activity often remained confined to formal meeting rooms.
Trigger
A representative of Taisho University Kyoto Academia learned about Miyako de IT and invited the community to use the facility. Around the same time, Kyoto Chie-Sangyo Sozo-no-Mori proposed co-hosting an IT engineer networking event.
How it developed
The event archive begins recording collaboration with Taisho University Kyoto Academia with the Miyako de IT Open Day on July 9, 2025. The site then became a regular venue for co-working sessions #48, #49, and #52. In April 2026, it hosted a Claude Code / OpenClaw hands-on workshop with 12 participants, followed in May by a report session from Korea-based Hashed’s Protocol Camp.
Taisho University was preparing to open its Faculty of Information Science in April 2026, creating a need to connect the university with the local technology community. Events were designed so students and professional engineers could share a table, while promotion remained open to people outside the institution. The continuing programs draw 10–30 people per event.
Industry–academia contact also extends beyond university venues. At the eighth IT Engineer Networking Event in Kyoto, co-hosted with Kyoto Chie-Sangyo Sozo-no-Mori in January 2026, Professor Masahiro Okuda of Doshisha University and Daichi Iwadare of VIG LAB held an industry–academia session. Miyako de IT’s public article describes the design principle: the community can provide the early contact where researchers and engineers meet before a formal program and translate research themes into proof-of-concept ideas.

Taisho University opened its Faculty of Information Science in April 2026. Work connecting IT talent development with the local engineer community is accelerating.
