Event Report: The 8th IT Engineer Networking Event in Kyoto
On Friday, January 16, 2026, we held the 8th IT Engineer Networking Event in Kyoto at KOIN, the open-innovation hub on the third floor of Kyoto Economic Center in Shijo-Karasuma, Kyoto. About 30 IT engineers attended the event, jointly organized with Kyoto Chiesangyo Sozonomori.

Program
The first half consisted of sessions and a conversation, followed by free conversation among participants. The aim was to establish a shared language—a common theme—before networking, improving the quality of the conversations.
Session 1: Startup legal knowledge that IT engineers may notice before things become untenable
Speaker: Shunsuke Mizobata (attorney, TMI Associates Kyoto Office)
He organized the legal issues IT engineers should understand from a practical perspective. Participants were particularly interested in source-code copyright and differences in how contracts can be interpreted.
Session 2: What became visible between research and practice—hints for academia–industry collaboration
Speakers:
- Daichi Iwadare (Representative Director and CEO, VIG LAB Inc.)
- Professor Masahiro Okuda (Faculty of Science and Engineering, Doshisha University)
Under the theme of connecting research results to implementation in society, the speakers shared concrete ways to advance academia–industry collaboration.
Free conversation
In the second half, participants spoke freely with one another. Along with technology, substantial discussions about careers, products, and problems at development workplaces arose naturally throughout the venue.
Future plans
We are considering small meetups by theme, time for product feedback and technical consultation, and opportunities that connect academia–industry collaboration with startup support.
