Designing an ongoing networking series that connects Kyoto IT engineers with an industry-support organization

The industry-support organization wanted stronger contact with IT professionals across Kyoto Prefecture, but it was difficult to create a place where working engineers would keep gathering. The challenge was to design a self-sustaining engineer-led community rather than a one-off networking event.

Rental spaces and meeting rooms in central Kyoto are functional but can feel interchangeable. Temples, meanwhile, have a long history as places for gathering and conversation, yet had become distant from today’s IT professionals.

Former Assembly Hall of the Kyoto Prefectural Office (京都府庁旧議場)

Testing government-facility and technology-community collaboration through an AI-agent lightning-talk event in an Important Cultural Property

Historic buildings and government facilities had mainly been used for tourism or ceremonies, leaving little connection with the everyday activities of modern technology communities. Kyoto’s IT community also had limited experience repeatedly programming events in government spaces. Connecting the two through a real event was itself a pilot for government–industry–academia collaboration.
