Miyako Mokumoku Session #56 with Digital Nomad Kyoto: Event Report

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, Kyoto IT engineering community Miyako de IT held Miyako Mokumoku Session #56 with Digital Nomad Kyoto at Butsugenji. In addition to the regular focused-work format, this co-hosted session included special yoga and quantum mechanics programs.

Many first-time participants joined. The day contained both sustained individual work and natural conversation, giving the organizers confidence in the format.

Focus and connection in the setting of Butsugenji

Butsugenji is a historic Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha temple in Kyoto's Rokkaku Aburanokoji area and a continuing partner of Miyako de IT. Participants gather around tables in the quiet main hall with laptops and books. The environment differs fundamentally from an ordinary coworking space or meeting room.

Miyako de IT continues to use Butsugenji not only because it supports calm work, but because it brings participants closer together without forcing interaction. People work independently, then conversations emerge during breaks or from small shared moments.

Many first-time participants broadened the group

One of the strongest aspects of this event was the number of first-time attendees. New participants entered the room naturally and spent time at their own pace alongside returning members.

A community loses reach when it becomes closed to insiders, but it also loses continuity when every participant is new. The objective is to remain accessible to first-time visitors while comfortable for repeat participants. This session came close to that balance.

Miyako de IT participants work across web development, mobile applications, UX, Web3 and blockchain, AI, infrastructure, security, project management, DX, and design. Their different backgrounds gave the room depth.

Yoga and quantum mechanics

Alongside the ordinary mokumoku session, a roughly 30-minute special program began at 12:30 and included a yoga experience and a quantum-mechanics session.

Yoga gave participants time to reset bodies and attention that can become rigid during concentrated desk work. It created a useful change of pace in the overall program.

The quantum-mechanics session offered intellectual stimulation from outside everyday work and study. Participants listened to questions such as what quantum mechanics is and whether God plays dice. The topic expanded the event beyond being only a place to complete tasks.

New connections through Digital Nomad Kyoto

Co-hosting with Digital Nomad Kyoto created conversations and encounters different from those at a Miyako de IT-only event.

Stable operations with familiar members are not enough for a healthy community. Contact with a group shaped by a different context introduces new participants and relationships. Themes such as IT, design, working styles, and international experience become more interesting when they intersect.

Continuing to connect technology and people in Kyoto

Miyako de IT holds mokumoku sessions, study groups, and networking events in Kyoto. Its goal is to accumulate places where people can work, talk, encounter a new idea, and want to return.

The value is not only that somebody attended once, but that they leave wanting to come again or invite another person. This session provided clear evidence that the community was moving in that direction.
