Miyako de IT Held a Mokumoku Session and Rooftop BBQ at Fushigi na Yado
On May 29, 2026, Kyoto IT engineering community Miyako de IT held an early-summer mokumoku session and BBQ at Fushigi na Yado in Kyoto's Gojo area.
The event had two parts: focused individual work in the accommodation's lobby during the afternoon and a rooftop BBQ in the evening. Fushigi na Yado is a nine-room accommodation facility in Hashizume-cho, Shimogyo Ward, with a different concept for each room. It is three minutes on foot from Gojo Station.
Miyako de IT brings together people interested in web and application development, AI, Web3, blockchain, infrastructure, security, UX, and hardware. Designers, communications professionals, creators, project managers, DX professionals, and business developers also take part.
Seven people worked together in the lobby
Seven people attended the afternoon mokumoku session. They brought laptops and other work materials and focused on development, preparing documents, design, organizing information, and considering new business ideas.
A mokumoku session does not impose a common assignment. Everybody brings an individual task, and the presence of other people working nearby creates a natural period of focus. Unlike working alone in a cafe, this provides a moderate sense of shared purpose while still allowing someone to ask a nearby participant for advice or discuss an idea when helpful.
Technical questions, feedback on plans, and conversations about recently used tools arose naturally. The result was the relaxed but practical form of coworking characteristic of Miyako de IT. It also offered a change of environment for people tired of working in the same place.
Seventeen people joined the rooftop BBQ
In the evening, the event moved to the roof, where 17 people gathered for a BBQ.
Food, drinks, and the early-summer air created a different atmosphere from the afternoon session. Conversations ranged across technology, work, activity in Kyoto, services people hoped to build, AI and Web3, design, and communications.
Study sessions and lightning-talk events can naturally divide a room into organizers, speakers, and participants. Sharing a meal makes it easier for first-time attendees to enter a conversation. Engineers, designers, communications professionals, creators, and businesspeople discussed their interests without being limited by professional category.
Miyako de IT values exchange that is not closed within technology. A service or product is rarely completed by engineers alone: design, communication, planning, business development, and relationships with the region all help it reach society. Repeated informal contact can build trust so that, when somebody is ready to begin a project, collaborators already know one another.
About Fushigi na Yado
Fushigi na Yado is an accommodation facility in Kyoto's Gojo area. Its calm lobby works well for focused tasks, while the rooftop provides an open setting for conversation. The combination of an afternoon mokumoku session and evening BBQ has made it especially compatible with community events, and Miyako de IT has used the facility actively since 2025.
Kyoto contains many accommodation facilities, but fewer places where work, events, local relationships, and visitors overlap naturally. Fushigi na Yado can serve not only travelers but also local creators and engineers.
The tone of a venue affects the distance between participants. This setting was less formal than a meeting room but quieter than a cafe, leaving room for both work and interaction.

Miyako de IT creates opportunities for IT engineers, designers, communications professionals, creators, students, and business developers to learn, work, and connect. Themes include AI, Web3, blockchain, application development, design, and regional revitalization, but the underlying objective is to increase the number of people and relationships that make interesting things happen in Kyoto.
Large conferences are not the only source of community value. New jobs, projects, events, and collaborations often begin in small mokumoku sessions or over food. This event added more of those small points of contact.
