Continuing Web3 and blockchain study sessions

Ongoing study sessions in Web3, NFTs, decentralized identity, and smart contracts, centered on the Symbol blockchain, helped form a technical community connected to the HACK+2023 grand prize and a techAward in HackOsaka 2024 MVC award.

Background

Web3 and blockchain have a high barrier to independent learning. Interest among Kyoto IT engineers was growing, but there were few recurring places to meet and build. Miyako de IT needed a setting for deeper technical work.

Trigger

Contact with NEMTUS, the Symbol developer community, led to co-hosted hands-on sessions centered on Symbol. Continuing the series created a flow of participants with strong Web3 interests.

How it developed

Miyako de IT began working mainly in blockchain in September 2022 and held the first Build a Blockchain Application session in Kyoto on December 3, 2022. The series continued through its tenth edition in September 2023, with hands-on programs including building a decentralized social network and playing a Symbol-based social deduction game. An accelerated Symbol retreat followed in April 2023.

The continuing study sessions attracted participants with strong Web3 interests. During the same period, a team formed by people who met at a 2018 AI event won the HACK+2023 grand prize for Cycle, a blood-donation support DApp; the team did not originate in Miyako de IT. Prize money funded the UNKNOWN QUEST hackathon in July, and a general-community MVC award at techAward in HackOsaka 2024 added another milestone.

The activity extends beyond Kyoto. A joint blockchain study session with Chijo IT took place in January 2024. In May 2026, Taisho University Kyoto Academia hosted a report by Yuka Ishida, who attended Korea-based Hashed’s Protocol Camp and won its internal hackathon, connecting participants in Kyoto and Kansai with the wider Asian Web3 ecosystem.
