HACK+2023 Grand Prize
A team formed by people who met through Miyako de IT in 2019 developed Cycle, a blood-donation support DApp, and won the grand prize at NEMTUS’s Symbol blockchain hackathon HACK+2023.
Background
Blood donation rates in Japan have been declining, especially among younger people. The team explored whether blockchain could support an incentive mechanism for donating blood.
Trigger
Two members who met through Miyako de IT in 2019 formed a team and entered HACK+2023, organized by NEMTUS.
How it developed
HACK+2023 was a Symbol blockchain hackathon organized by NEMTUS. A team formed by people who met through Miyako de IT in 2019 developed Cycle, a blood-donation support DApp, and won the grand prize.
This page records the award for a project that grew out of people meeting through the community, together with the follow-on activity that emerged after it. Miyako de IT’s role was to provide the place where the members met, to introduce the work after the win, and to connect it to the next initiative.
The team reinvested the prize money and held the independently organized UNKNOWN QUEST hackathon at UNKNOWN KYOTO on July 29–30, 2023. It was a community-led program focused on blockchain applications, with a pre-event gathering and advance connections through Discord. The experience also became an important catalyst for founding the operating company, Netsujo Inc.
