Kyoto Chie-Sangyo Sozo-no-Mori / KOIN (京都知恵産業創造の森)

KOIN × Miyako de IT

Designing an ongoing networking series that connects Kyoto IT engineers with an industry-support organization

Overview

Category
Government and industry support
Period
2023–present
Venue
KOIN (inside the Kyoto Economic Center)
Audience
IT engineers, startups, and support-organization staff in Kyoto Prefecture
Format
Co-hosted networking events, seminars, and lightning-talk sessions

Challenge before the collaboration

The industry-support organization wanted stronger contact with IT professionals across Kyoto Prefecture, but it was difficult to create a place where working engineers would keep gathering. The challenge was to design a self-sustaining engineer-led community rather than a one-off networking event.

What we did

  • 1Co-hosted multiple editions of the IT Engineer Networking Event in Kyoto at KOIN
  • 2Selected themes and speakers from a working engineer’s perspective and aligned them with participant interests
  • 3Developed adjacent programs, including legal seminars and industry–academia sessions
  • 4Led promotion, on-site operations, and post-event reviews on behalf of Miyako de IT

Miyako de IT’s role

Program planning and theme design
Promotion and participant recruitment through connpass
On-site facilitation and speaker coordination
Post-event participant follow-up and connection to the next edition

IT Engineer Networking Event in Kyoto editions

Regular co-hosting over multiple years
Continuity

Qualitative outcomes

  • The distance between government programs and working engineers narrowed, creating a route for field feedback
  • KOIN is increasingly recognized by Kyoto IT professionals as an accessible place to gather
  • The partners established a multi-year relationship instead of ending after a single event

What comes next

  • Continue expanding themed programs in recruitment, industry–academia collaboration, law, and other areas
  • Explore connections with other Kyoto Prefecture industry-support programs

Organizations this model suits

Government and industry-support organizations seeking ongoing contact with local IT professionals
Organizations that want an engineer-led community instead of attendance driven from the top down
Partners prepared to build a multi-year relationship rather than run a single event
